This project started as a case study in 2017. Initially this was for me to learn about affiliate marketing and search engine optimization.
The goal with this site was to get a constant and growing stream of users that visit my site from Google. This is not my first website but the first one that ranks well and provides organic traffic.
How it started or what was the challenge?
This project actually begins with another website I build during university: Der Sinologe. Der Sinologe was a page for students learning Chinese to improve their reading skills. Read more about it here.
The problem was that apart from social media postings I wouldn't get any traffic to the Chinese learning site. That was frustrating and I wanted to know how to rank with Google. Around that time I stumbled upon a case study.
The case study that changed everything
Browsing the social online community reddit I found a case study by someone about creating websites that rank with Google and that eventually were able to make money.
Basically the case study explained step by step how to create and grow a website and get visitors on your website.
The results
The page is a success regarding organic traffic from Google. Each year the sites keeps on growing so far and more and more people visit the site.

The page itself works well but for me even better is the fact that I now have a product (the site) where I can track different things in analytics and learn from the data.

Furthermore this sites enables me to run A/B-Tests to see what makes a better site for my users. This helps me to stay up to date regarding Google Optimize.
Creating the branding
Although affiliate websites are mostly about content I wanted to add a nice branding in order to add a trust factor to the site. After some iterations I created the logo which resembles the wire from an old lamp as well as the two "ll"s in the brand name "Lampenlabor".
